Re: Fuel consumption
I'm a former Alfa owner who is considering returning to the fold in form of a 159 SW diesel.
Must admit to being slightly horrified at 2.4 consumption as described on here, although I suppose for 200+horsepower its ok.
We had a 156 2.4jtd Spotswagen for 2 yrs and got (measured tank to tank) 38-42 depending on the drivng, which was good. It was "only" 140hp, compared to the 1.9JTD now being 150 which seems bizarre.
Noticed on one of the other threads a coment about BMW diesels - the sensible alternative for us is a 520d touring.
Talk about being ahead of the game - their 520d engine has been upgraded from last june so the combined cycle mpg goes up from 47 to 53mpg. Amazing, and 177bhp. Don't know how they manage it.
Ugly car though . Our Golf tdi is about 54mpg on combined cyle and a lot lighter.
With all the cars we've had in last 10 yrs or so, if there isn't a head wind and on rural driving or motorways we've managed to average about 2 mpg less than combined cycle figs, so was hoping 38 from 159 2.4 would be possible.
Going to keep reading these forums and hopefully hear better news from 159 diesel owners when they have done some more miles. Thanks for posting your experiences.
