Not strictly true Pudster !!
Bose from AR = £600 !!
Yes, my system definitely came to more than the Bose. I would say my system should
be better than the Bose (must compare at the next meet); it has high quality speakers all round, including full range coming from the rear. Lets put it this way, my ipod with Sennheiser over-ear headphones sounds a bit dull now!
I believe the Bose only has sub coming from the back which means the uppers and mids are all staged at the front which I'm not keen on (I've been spoilt before with great after market upgrades), but sound staging may not bother you. However, if you are not interested in a sub, don't get the Bose.
Also, you could do much less modification than I did, like just changing the door and dash speakers alone to a high quality component set, for about £300 including fitting (the fitting isn't straightforward apparently). That would be an ideal cheap upgrade for those who do prefer not to sub.
I really am not sure what to do in a year or so's time when my Fiance gets an Alfa (Spider or 159 SW, haven't chosen yet) - whether to get the Bose or not this time. I will end up driving the new car instead of her at least some of the time (I do all the distance driving
) so audio is important, but her car will be a lease/alfa finance job so I don't want to spend a lot on after market upgrades, though they would mostly be detachable.
I must check out Nomad or Kelvin's Bose at some time. It is the same head as the standard car, correct? The head is part of the problem, I would be tempted to change the head but would fear to wreck the Blue & Me function.
