Greetings to all,

Advice: never buy 1.9 always go for the 2.4 210HP!! at the end you will be better with the money on 2.4 than on 1.9

I own 1.9 JTDM T.I 110kW, my gearbox is making noise on 5 and 6 gear, i purchased Uprated(snr) 9 bearing seals and sachs clutch/DMF csc kit..

My kit has arrived but the problem is i cant find good gearbox specialist on my country to repair them! also i heard from other users that after rebuild the problems will come again soon! so im returning the package!

Now i have to find a used gearbox m32, and alfas are rear in my country!

Does all of this list will of gearboxes will fit in my Alfa! even if the car is Opel??

Help, advice, opinion everything is very welcome for me at this moment!

ps: it is better to repair this old one, or to get a used one!?

Based on this post, I do not believe the Vauxhall gearboxes will fit ...

Yes you have an M32 but there are many different versions of the M32, one from a Astra etc will not fit as they are missing the bolt holes the 159 needs for it rear engine mount

We can rebuild your gearbox, costs depend on how bad the damage is and what needs to be replaced

There is a page about this on our web site

Autolusso - M32 6 Speed Gearbox

Not sure about about the boxes from the Fiat range

If you buy a second hand box surely you will have the same problem again. The best option is to fit the bearings you have and change the oil regularly. All of the boxes you have listed if they are M32 boxes will have exactly the same problem. As some of these boxes have had a problem at lowish mileage there is no way to know if it will last any longer than the one you have.
At least if you repair yours you will know it has been fixed.
Even if you buy a second hand box I would recomend you change the bearings before fitting it even if it is to prevent the problem.
You will not know if the box is any good unless you strip it and check .

putting used m32 is bad choice, you need your repaired, or repair the used one and then swap. maybe you could buy one repaired from abroad? imo do not go the route one of other AO recenty chosen, to buy new gearbox, cost was like 4k gbp, it is too expensive. repairs last long enough. important to keep m32 healthy is to add 0.5l more oil than manufacturer recommends

I thought the later models were the 2.0 JTDm With a different box??

@gdeer. Repair of M32 is not any rocket science. I'm 100% sure that in your country there is plenty of Opel cars, and as they suffer exactly the same issues, so there must be guys who has a lot of experience with repairing M32s. Best to get that sorted out locally, as shipping far away abroad will be costly and will take ages (at least if you go for some price valued shipping).

I got my former 159 JTDM M32 repaired not even by specialist - the guy is very active polish AR forum member who from his education is mechanic engineer and works for FCA. He decided to do repair of his own 159 M32 by himself a few years back, read as much as he could to prepare theoretically to the task, and got that sorted out OK. Then he did repairs to a few other local forum members, and then he repaired mine gearbox 1.5 year ago. He didn't charged me as professional, and his method of repair was even without taking out the gearbox out of the car. He replaced just 6 bearings to Timken (I got already 2 diff bearings and seals replaced by my mechanic year earlier), and the gearbox is fine since then. Repair cost was equivalent of EUR120 for labour, EUR130 for 6 Timken bearings and EUR30 for 3L of oil (we put 2.8L in). I know that professional companies in Poland charge around EUR450-600 for repair+bearings+seals+oil, possibly prices I west Europe would be much more, since labour is there way more priced, but in your country I expect you may have it done for more or less as we pay in Poland.

FYI, whining noise of bearings very often is not something which requires immediate attention (though not always) - I bought my JTDM with gearbox whining (all the time above >50km/h, and gear, any load, any clutch position) and I did 90.000km with whining gearbox. Only what I did at start was I changed oil and added oil additive with some ceramic addons dedicated for protecting gearboxes. Old oil was dirty with metallic super tiny bits, but after oil change, gearbox degradation must stopped in my case - after around 70kkm when we approached repair (just diff bearings and seals, what was easier) the drained oil was still nearly like new one, and whining noise didn't increased even by tiny bit since the car was bought. At final repair it turned that I had that biggest bearing damaged, all the other bearings looked like new (the guy said it is first case he see that, that earlier cases were some other bearings, and usually they were noisy only on some gears like 6).

Hope it is some useful info, and hope you find the right guy to sort out your gearbox.

As far as I know you only need a set of bearing pullers which most garages should have?
I think they just can't be bothered. I think anybody who has g/box experience should be able to do this???

I have purchased this kit

These gearboxes can take 2 different size of input front bearing and seals so we include both types to enable you to order the kit before the gearbox is dismantled

This kit contains

2 x Top mainshaft uprated S.N.R taper roller bearings EC42192 ( replaces the Timken type ) 25mm x 55mm x 13.75mm

1 x Top input shaft uprated S.N.R. taper roller bearing EC42193 ( replaces the Timken type ) 28mm x 55mm x 13.75mm

2 x Bottom main shaft Timken bearings NP238750 / NP929800, 45mm x 88mm x 18mm

1 x Front input shaft early Timken bearing 27mm internal diameter NP030522 / NP378917, 27mm x 51.4mm x 13.2mm

1 x Front input shaft late S.N.R. bearing 25 mm internal diameter EC42310 ( replaces the Timken type ) 25mm x 51.4mm x 13.2mm

2 x Differential / Crown wheel uprated S.N.R. bearings EC42217 ( replaces the Timken type ) 41mm x 73mm x 21mm

2 x Differential / Drive shaft Corteco o.e.m. oil seals

1 x Differential cover o.e.m. O ring ( not in picture )

1 x Front input o.e.m. seal for use with the Timken front input bearing, 26mm x 41 mm x 6 mm

1 x Front input o.e.m. seal for use with the S.N.R. front input bearing, 24.5 mm x 41mm x 6 mm

2 x Mainshaft top bearing circlips

And dmf/flywhee/csc sachs kit, but nobody want to repair m32 !
