Ive done some digging on here and cant find excatly what people have done to eliminate the problem. After spending some time in the most awkward position known to man to try and find where excatly its coming from im no further on. Its only on the last 1/5 of the return stroke but its annoying as hell, ive used some silione spray and white grease and il reduces it but it comes bacK again nxt day, so im thinking it has to be a dry joint or pivot. even with the pedal cable tied out of the way its still really hard to see the full workings. Any one know excatly where to lube ??????????
Cheers In advance

I suppose there is a risk that the grease will rot, soften or swell the rubber. Not a huge problem for the dust cap but more of an issue if it can work its way down to the seal. Red rubber grease is safe but I don't know if you can get it in a spray and I don't know how easy it would to get in with a syringe. Given that you master cylinder is not likely to be in need of replacement any time soon, on balance I'd be tempted to dismantle and grease properly.

Don't use ordinary (mineral oil based) grease anywhere near hydraulics, it destroys rubber components. I've never seen red rubber (vegetable oil based) grease as an aerosol either. Silicone grease is widely available in aerosols, and safe with rubbers. However I have the same squeaky clutch problem. Pulling back the rubber cover over the pushrod into the master cylinder, then a squirt of silicone grease inside, is widely recommended on these forums. However I did that and it made no difference at tall.

I’m putting my clutch master cylinder back together soon on my 2001 mk1 petrol 147.

move asked about this on another thread; brakes and clutch servicing new to me but red rubber grease has been recommended.

I have a thick silicone grease (NLGI 3 rated) which I might use for the assembly between the metal piston/ rod onto the white plastic piston.

I’ll get some red rubber grease then for the black rubber seats on the piston then....

I had this problem a few week ago. I later found out my master was actually on its way out. It did this for almost two months but I just lived with it. Them one day, BOOM! In traffic none the less [emoji85] replaced the master and problem solved
