Just been loaned a 159 1.9 while my 159 2.4 is having warranty work done
I have had my 159 2.4 sw from new for 9 months now and 10,000mls. Its back again at the workshop having warranty work done to it. Love the car but the faults, generally minor, are getting irritating.
I noticed the 1.9 diesel doesn't have the wonderful growl of the 2.4 5 cylinder but I was impressed on how much smoother it is at tickover and through the rev range. My 2.4 does have a rattle from the engine area when its revved beyond 3000rpm and is quite lumpy at tickover, Alfa say they can find no fault with the engine. As anyone else experienced this between the 1.9 and 2.4?
The gearbox in also smoother in the 1.9, my gearbox can be notchy between 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd. Do 1.9 and 2.4 share the same 6sp gearbox?
My 159 is having some paintwork rectified because at some point before I received the car, unknown to me, the dealer or Alfa had part of the rear of the car repainted which now turns from a black metallic to a cloudy grey when its cold and wet, the paint is perfect when its warm and dry!
Other problems so far:
The drivers heated seat and wing mirror no longer work.
The tracking was way out and ruined two 18" tyres in a few thousand miles.
Its been in 3 times to cure the rattling windscreen seal, I've fixed it myself now with silicone grease etc ( noticed the 1.9 loan car also does it, are Alfa ever going to fix this issue?).
Both the inner rear wheel arch covers had no retaining clips and rattled away.
I thought I had a rattle from the drivers door but that turned out to be a loose front drivers wheel arch cover.
Economy has not improved, still only about 32mpg even when driven carefully.
9 months on and I find myself taking a second look at the car as I walk away, must still like it!
