Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and alfa ownership so please go easy on me.
I have searched the forum but haven't found a definitive answer on how to lower a 2.4 SW Ti.
I know the Ti sits about 20mm lower than the lusso as standard and I have looked at Eibach, Pi etc Lowering spring kits which state they lower around 30-35mm, but I assume this is for the standard lusso model and not Ti. I want to drop mine further so the arches sit just atop the 19s.......but what do I go for? Is there a spring kit which will lower the Ti enough to make it noticeable or shall I have to go for coilovers?
I know Lowering has been covered extensively, but I really am struggling to find an answer, so I'd appreciate any help you can offer.
I couldn't drive through London on the Ti suspension due to the number of speed humps. There was a post here about a month ago from a member with a destroyed sump. I've gone the other way and put Lusso springs on. I now have a nice even gap all the way around the wheel arch so the curves match. New height is 38.5 front and 38.0 rear (wheel centre to arch)
The Eibach spring drop of 30-35 mm is based on the Lusso springs so fitting them on your car will not lower it that much. To drop it you can fit Bilstein B8 shocks with the Eibach Pro springs
Thanks for that info mate. I'm assuming the B8 shocks allow the car to drop further with the Eibach lowering springs than the standard shocks? Will this still retain some of the comfort of the stock suspension? I know I could go lower if I fit coilovers but my fear is then having a super stiff ride which I'll hate particularly around town.
Hi there i have a 159 TI SW , and have lowered it on the Ebiac -30s , and i can get over speedbumps just fine , , will post photos of how it sits for you tomorow ,
i highly reccomend the ebaic springs as it dropped mine a good 10 mill to 15mm , , and looks so much better , handels so good , and not boouncy and crashy
Just bite the bullet and get KW coilovers, that way you'll never be thinking ' if I could've just gone 8mm lower' or 'I thought these were supposed to be good, but they're not particularly'.
I cannot slate Eibach springs on the rear of a SW enough, I've written plenty about it in another thread:blabla:
I've got V3's which are pretty pricey unless you find a mega deal like I did. I can mess with them a lot, but in reality I rarely do as their recommended settings suit me fine. Brilliant when unloaded and also had 4 blokes, 4 mountain bikes, 3 roadbikes, tow bar rack, roofbox and the car filled to the brim with fuel and kit- with Eibachs I struggled with bottoming out with just my kids and some luggage in the boot. You simply won't have any regrets with KW.
If you're North London, pop up to mine for a look.
Hey mate, thanks for your response. I am considering coilovers, but I'm worried about the stiffness. I'm SW London so not too far. Where in N London are you?
I'm actually in Hitchin, 40 miles north o London. I just thought you might be north London and it'd be a quick drive.
Don't be worrying about KW being too hard, they're not at all. I'm not interested in a hard, but on rails ride, had this with B6's and Eibach on my old 156 SW, amazing on a sweeping bend but absolute garbage ride otherwise. B4 dampers and Eibachs were good on my 159 SW on the front, gave a good ride quality, but KW are much better. I threw a hell of a lot of money at my ssuspension, wasted so much on what was supposed to be good gear and ended redoing it all. Only trying to help.
Will do some more later, but I can basically have it however I want it I could go lower than in the photos, but it looks fine to me. Have you seen the massive 'suspension upgrade advice' thread? It's a good read.
Summer wheels on the car, TI wheels and winter tyres going on this weekend. It'll be like having a new car
