Turbo oil feed banjo bolt filter

Has anyone removed the plastic gauze filter from the turbo oil feed banjo bolt.? I know they can block up easily and kill the turbo so was going to remove it but concerned incase it lets too much oil pressure to the turbo and blow the seals.

i read that in giuliettas (but 1.4engines) some removed the filter by drilling i think with 7mm drill bite from bottom, others removed it using heat(or fire?i didnt get into details what exactly they did) and some people uses screw from oil return hose instead. others (me as well) change filter every ~3 oil changes.

Yes, on Ned @ Autolusso's advice. It's extremely fine gauze, and easy to see how it could clog. It is retained within a plastic moulding. I tried to withdraw it using a pick, and failed, so in the end drilled it out, which was easy.

Thanks, I have a spare banjo that I have removed the filter from but was unsure about fitting it. But reassuring to know that Autolusso remove them.

Is this only valid for diesels or does the 1750tbi have the same issue.

The filter for sure is the case for 159 TBi, I changed it last year, I wasn't aware it is also case for diesels.

Sorry for the stupid question. I am an aircraft engineer and i think that i can consider my self qualified to do the job. I just bought the car. I did not have time to lift the bonnet to have a look, I am away from home working every second week for work except for the last 3 weeks as i was not home at all. To make my life more hell orientated I am also restoring an old house.

I will have a look when i am back home. I was just trying to find out what needs to be done and if i need some parts. The last thing i want to do is taking something apart, realising that i need part and the car us grounded for a few weeks.

In that case you will be fine doing the job, the filter is in the bolt for the banjo that goes in the block. It may have already been removed so don't be surprised if it is not there

What you really need is one of our hybrid turbos

So is it an official alfa romeo modification or is it a homemade based on experience? Sometimes manufactures seems to ignore problems like this as they happens after several years in service.

as far as I know 2nd option and manufacturer has no plans to touch it ever - probably works for them, after say 100-200kkm likelyhood of turbo failure increases because of that filter, and then they will be very happy if you visit them and pay 2-3k for new turbo and labour.

Sounds a bit like the M32 gearbox then.
