Alfa 159 2.4 engine problem

Hi Folks....need some advice

I have a 57 plate 72k 159 2.4 JTDM, new turbo, serviced etc not long ago, however 2 weeks ago the engine was making a tappet sound noise from the top end.......then got louder and louder and now sounds like a bag of nails, no oil pressure light or warning signs, just very loud. Loss of power and now at a dead end. I thought this car would last be for a while being lowish miles considering that a brand new turbo was fitted back in June too.

Any advice would be greatly received

cheers

vinny

Did the last service include proper filter change and replaced with correct grade of oil?

Possibly a noisy/failing injector. Easy to test using a piece or wood or stethoscope. You'll quickly find the loud one(s) if that's the problem.

Could also be a loose injector. Any smell of diesel?

Ok will check those parts, but I was wondering, if there were any of the above symptoms, would I get a diagnostic light error come up at all ? All feedback and replies are appreciated

Depends on severity I guess but I would not imagine it would activate the engine light if mechanically worn or lose. Someone will correct me if wrong.
Have you check for leaking swirl flaps?
