Wave Similar Problem - VPS

Hello James, I hope that you will forgive me for 'jumping in' on your question, but being a novice with vehicles (or to be honest - know 'nought about them!), I believe that I have a similar query to yours. I have an Alfa 159, and this morning when attempting to start the car, the warning message "Vehicle Protection System not Available" came up on the dashboard. Obviously, the car won't start, it's a Sunday, and I live miles from the nearest Alfa dealer. Would you know if this is something that can be fixed at a local garage, or is it a serious problem. Sorry to be so nave on this subject, but any help greatly appreciated. Good luck to you too..

I wont help on author's issue, but have comment re the upgrade. remapping without doing dyno measuremets, chechking egt and afr and power/torque curves, tweaking them, checking limits of 2 mass flywheel, leaving safe headroom for this particular car and making sure all is right seems to me not much better than using box,and so potentiality it is asking for troubles longterm

Had this a few years ago. Could be switch behind clutch pedal. So to start press brake pedal at same time as start button. if no good, try clutch pedal at same time as start button.
Hope this is of some use

Agree with Fastweaty, give the battery a good charge and try again.
The only time I've seen that error message was when the the front wheels where obstructed preventing the steering wheel lock from disengaging. A quick wiggle of the wheel solved it for me!

How have you gotten on in trying to rectify this airboe10?
Is your steering lock engaging & dis-engaging when you insert/remove the key?
There is an ECU that contains the column steering lock & also all of the electrical circuitry that passes permissions to the body/engine ecu to initiate start up.
It is a common failure on the 159/Brera.
