Squeaky belt

My 2007 2.4 has recently started squeeking from the right hand side of the engine as you look into the bonnet. It dies down after a few seconds. Cambelt change is not due yet.

Weather here has been really hot so not a damp related issue.

Should I be worried that something is about to let go?

Does it squeak like an auxiliary belt slipping? Does it sound like an idler pulley?

A good way to check is to spray some WD40 on the belt and if the squeaking stops then it is most likely the aux belt. Another option is talc on it before you start it. It only lasts a little while but should confirm it is the aux belt.

About a month ago mine fell off. The aux belt was in tact but loose. Transpires the bottom aux pulley fell off. Yes it fell off. It's actually two separate pieces bonded with rubber (dampening I suspect) and it fell in two.
It looks tight in there so I sent it off to a specialist for them to do it. They agreed how tight it was and asked if I could take it somewhere else . Pig of a job.

Priorities I find, are usually someone else's.
Statements above are all my own opinion and not fact.
