Re: Unleaded in a diesel 159!
I went out to help my neighbour that had put 18 litres of unleaded in his duratorq common rail transit van on friday, the tank was pretty much empty when he did it, he drove 15 miles to wickes where he said it was gradually loosing power and running rough, and once he had stopped the engine, it refused to start again.
I got the van recovered to my house, and on sunday morning i took the fuel tank off, blew the fuel lines through with my compressor, replaced the fuel filter and then half filled the fuel tank with diesel and 2 litres of engine oil and shook it up to mix it, then i half filled the fuel filter with engine oil and topped it up with diesel, disconnected the high pressure feed to the injectors and let it spray out for about 60 seconds of cranking (in 20 second bursts) until i could see and smell it was diesel at the injectors, then reconnected it all and it took about 3-4 seconds to start and runs perfectly now
I've heard loads of horror stories about petrol in high pressure diesels, but this is the third one i have fixed now and they have gone on to run perfectly, so i dont think you will have a problem with your alfa, but i wouldnt have taken it to a main dealer, as loss of warranty is a big possibility
It took me about 2.5 hours to do the fuel flush and everything on his van which shouldnt cost you too much i wouldnt have thought at a garage as they will have ramps and air ratchets and other things that would have greatly helped me when i did it, i would expect about an hour for a dealer or local type garage
