Android stereo in 159. Anyone tried.

It starts to arrive more and more android based car stereos on the market. Does any one have any experience of any of them and what to buy. It would make sense to have an android stereo with cd player.

Just imagen how easy things could be.

Install Here Maps and you have your sat nav sorted for free with free updates and offline navigation.

You can install an OBD app and do trouble shooting on the run.

Have a memory stick or a sd card with loads of music.

You could do anything that you can do with an android pad in your car.

Hi Vij

I'm currently looking at getting an Android unit installed. My understanding is that there are various Chinese units available, (with some variable quality reports) such a Carjoying and Pumpkin. Many of these are now running Android 5.1 and look very slick, similar to a standard android UI.

There's also the option of buying branded units which actually support the full Android play system but to me, look like inferior UI's. I've asked a local Audio specialist firm to give me a quote and recommendation which will allow the steering wheel controls to continue working.

The quote was 769.00 for installing this;
DDX9716BTS Android Auto multimedia system ? Kenwood UK

To be honest, that's too pricey for me, I think I'm leaning towards this...

has anyone installed this Pumpkin unit, or should I be the first?

Looking good. How does it sound compared to the original sound system if you play a cd.

Lots of Android units fitted.

Make sure it is quad core and 8Gb.

Have a look at this thread and read the threads that it links to.

Be aware that you end up with a LOT of extra cable behind the unit and it can be a right pain getting the unit in with all the cables behind it. You should see a space down the LH side (looking at the dash) where most of the wires can be pushed (using some force) into.
