Strange key fault!

I have got a strange key fault in my 2.0 jtdm159 (2010).

Recently the ignition lights don't come on when I put the key in the ignition.
I have to take it out and insert the key 2-4 time before the lights come on.
If I insert the key and press the start button, without the lights coming on, the car will start but without preheating the glowplugs.

I have also had the "System protection not available" message coming up, but after I replaced the battery, that message only appear sometimes.
The steering wheel lock works. The keyfob has got new batteries.
It would be a great help if someone could suggest what to check, or if anyone has had the same fault an got it fixed.
Could it be an fault with the "ground/earth?"

Best regards
