I`ve run lots of different tyres on my high-miler 156. Taking this thread as a question about making the tyres last, not just performance, then here is my 2p worth from the available list.
Pilot Sports last for ever but the grip isn`t great. Don`t know why. Heavy FWD maybe? They do, however, last for ages and you can get nearly 30K miles out of them. Not good in the wet round corners!
Conti-sport2. Very good. Better grip than the Pilots, last for about 24K but are cheaper than pilots so the cost per mile works out the same
Acceptable in the wet, pretty good in the dry. Nice positive steering feel - something I don`t get from Toyos BTW.
Finally, since other have mentioned performance, PZeros are untouchable, they grip like nothing else but wear out fast! (12K)
I recommend the conti2 as a tyre that has reasonable performance but will also last for many, many miles.
