159 2.0 JTDM - Engine trouble at 5000Km

Hi everyone!

I am the proud owner of a brand new 159 Sportwagon 2.0 JTDM TI.

So far I love it! But I am afraid I have just run into a problem.

At just over 5300 Km the "have engine checked" message suddenly appeared and the engine symbol is on. This seems to coincide with a lack of power at lower RPM, which is especially apparent when shifting up to 2nd and 3rd gears.

I am contacting my dealer / service center first thing in the morning, but I am posting here because I am curious if anyone has experienced this and/or knows what it can be.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Sounds like the usual blocked EGR valve or blocked DPF. Engine full of soot basically. I'm sure the dealer will be able to sort it out.

Thanks for the info and the welcome.
I found some other threads on this issue; it sounds like what I am experiencing.

An update - it is not the usual ERG or DPF issue, but an electrical problem with the radiator fan. So they say anyway; the car is there two days already and they still don't know what the problem really is. They just keep ordering new parts and replacing things to see what will fix it.

Anyone else experience such an issue?

I am really not happy that the new car has a problem at 5000Km. You have got to be kidding me, Alfa! This is my first Alfa and we are seriously considering buying another one, but this is not a good sign.

Welcome to AO

Glad it seems your 159 is being soted. I am sure you are disappointed but remember any car brand/any model can have problems, please don't fall into the trap of thinking Alfas are unreliable, they are no more unreliable than any other brand and better than most. I am sure you will have many years happy motoring with your 159

Thanks. I believe it will get taken care of, and I do love it. I can't help but smile every time I drive it.

I want it back in my garage as soon as possible!
