2.4 Cam Belt Change

Hi All,

I need to do a cam belt change with the next service.

I read the elearn section and it says that the engine must be removed... surely not?

Tried to search th forum but I just get a white page for the advanced search!

I had the belt done in my 2.4 20v 156 and they did not have to remove the engine. If I remember correctly it took them about 5/6 hours or so to change it not enough time to remove an engine. Total cost was about £280 in 2009 at my local garage. At the beginning of the year I picked up my new (to me) 159 2.4 which had a new belt fitted just before, again I'm pretty sure the lump wasn't removed for this.

Engine doesn't need to be removed they can just jack engine up slightly to gain enough access to the belt.

Dealers will use the whole 'engine out' thing to charge up to £1200 for a cam belt change, but an Indy should be able to do it for less than half that.
