159 2.4 q4

having been away from Alfas for a while ( got a jag XF at mo ) I'm thinking of moving back.
I considering either a 159 2.4 jtdm ti Q4 or 1750 ti.
does anyone have any experience of the diesel Q4 what,s it like to drive/ run and what the mpg .

they seem to be quite rare but I've seen an 07 40k miler for £15k , is this a good price ?

thanks for the link, but it's a saloon I,m looking for.

I tried them both out today , the diesel Q4 looked great from the outside but was a bit shabby inside and had a strange smell. The engine sounded like a bag of nails when it started up from cold, but once it got going it was a really enjoyable drive. The brakes also felt a bit wooden and needed a firm prod.
It didn't want to pull from below 1500rpm with out making a bit of vibration and noise too.
Is this normal for Q4 diesels

The TBI by copmparason felt a lot lighter and more spritely and no smell , but it was nearly new. Thengine was much smoother and quieter, and the brakes sharper with more bite.

I really wanted to like the Q4 but I don't know if I could stand the shabby interior.

It had a lot of service invices in the wallet which was good to see but it also had a few call out sheets from the AA , one for fluid leaking out of engine - not so good.

.

Allthough the dealer did say that they hadn't cleaned the inside yet.

So waht do you think - should I take a punt on this Q4 or wait and see if any more come on the market soon ?

Check SJ Rayner Cars in Kidderminster.

They've got a pretty nice 2.4 Q4 159. It's an auto tho! £10k

Thanks Moel, that does look like a nice one.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be a Q4 though and I really wanted a ti

Alfa 159 TI 2.4 Q4

I have a 2.4TI Q4, and am very pleased with it.
I would agree with you that the brakes are slightly wooden which is a bit of a disappointment. Mines been re-mapped and pulls really well The previous owner said the re-map made a big difference, so I don't know how it compares to a standard map ECU. There's a slight vibration noise on over-run when the revs drop below 1500, but pulls well from about 1250 rpm, and is very very torquey

As you say though it is a pleasure to drive, and with the four wheel drive, you don't get wheelspin on quick standing starts.

I've only had mine for seven weeks or so and have had a tank averaging 27 mpg, one at 29 mpg and presently at 3/4 empty I'm looking at about 35 mpg. I'm driving fairly economically most of the time but with quite a few short quick blasts That's when the fuel consumption takes a dip.

I personally prefer diesels because of their torque, and I like the sound that the 5 pot diesel makes and so wouldn't probably go for the petrol, unless it was a 3.2, but then I couldn't live with the fuel consumption.

would you mind telling me how much you paid your for 2.4 Q4 ti and what age mileage it had done. please pm me if you don't want to post it.

did you have much trouble finding one ?

I really like the way they drive particularly under hard acceceleration , none of that front wheels scrabbling effect . Oh and cornering of course .

I know what you mean about the 3,2 Q4 , i used to have one and it cost a fortune to run.
I calculated that it would cost me £3,350 pa just get to work and back

Alfa 159 TI 2.4 Q4

This is the advert for my car, for which I paid the asking price.

Alfa Romeo : Alfa 159 TI 2.4 JTDM 20V Q4 (remapped)

The reason that I paid the asking price was because it had full history with a recent main dealer service, nearly new tyres and was in excellent condition inside and out, just a couple of superficial scratches and a couple of stone chips on the bonnet, 10 months MOT and 4 months VED. Also because it was a 210 (possibly more as it's been re-mapped) and the tyre wear issue has hopefully been addressed.. It is a private sale, so no dealer come back if it was a pig in a poke! A bit of a gamble there.

I had been looking for about 3 months just to get a feel for what was a sensible price for 159s, and had only seen one 2.4 Q4 which IIRC was at Veloces, 57 plate can't remember the milage but price was £15,500, which was out of my budget for a three year old car.

I had concluded that I would probably not see a 159 Q4 diesel that I could afford based on Velloces asking price, and had resigned to run my then present car until this spring and then buy a "standard" 2.4 diesel, then my 159 2.4 Q4 came up for sale as did another two within days of me commiting to buy this one, one was Red and the other was Grey.

So to answer your question, I saw 1 X Q4 at Velloces, then another two (plus mine) just after I had paid my deposit for my car, and this was over a period of about three months. So they are fairly uncommon.

Will this affect your decision?

Many thanks for that info

your Q4 looks superb and a good price as well. It looks like it has ben really well cared for and has the usefull addition of the re map , which I would definately want to have done.

Can you remember how much the 2 at Veloces we going for ?

The problem I have with the one I've seen is that it doesn't look like it's been well looked after. The interior reminded me of a 10 year old BMW I once had .
Maybe the mileage isn't genuine ? but the service history seems to back it up

What is the interior on your car like is the drivers set and steering wheel shiny ?

My old ti which I sold at 2 years old looked pretty much like new inside .

Does any one know whether the interiors can be renovated in some way ?

Alfa 159 TI 2.4 Q4

The Red TI Q4 was at Platts, was 57 plate 33k (I think) and was £13,500.

The Grey TI Q4 was from a dealer but not a main dealer and was also a 57, can't remember milage and am not sure about price, but might have been slightly cheaper than mine at ??£12500

My steering wheel isn't shiny, neither is my seat! There is just a bit of light scuffing on the pipe trim which you rub against getting in and out.

the jag is a lovely car and a lot more refined than the Alfa , but I supose that's why it costs a lot more,.

I need to save a bit of money so hence the desire to change .

Also I have to admit that I do miss that certain " character" of the Alfa

I too have been looking for exactly the same car for a while now. I started looking when I saw the one that AlfaReggie52 bought - and I was just too slow to act on it! I am now even considering the SW (even though I have no need for an estate) as there seem to be more of them. When I spoke to Veloces about it they said that it is probably not worth waiting for one to come up as they are so rare

It might be worth comparing the Q4 to a standard FWD 2.4jtdm as the Q4 system makes the car feel a lot heavier (I suppose it is all the extra inertia in the system) - and if you prefer the lighter feel of the 1750, but want the grunt of the 2.4, then take one out for a drive and see what you think.

Hey Henry, Have you viewed the red one at Platts ? What did you think ? Apparently they,ve had a lot of interest in it !

I used to have a 159 3.2 Q4 lusso which I swapped for a 2.4 ti to reduce running costs and also loved the look of the ti.
But I've come to the opinion that I really like RWD cars better the FWD and the Alfa Q4 is the nearest thing to a RWD

They do feel a bit a heavier though, as you say. But I quite like that. Feels solid !

No, I haven't - I'm based in London and its rather a long way to go. It is also nearly £2500 above the Parker's franchised dealer price for that exact car. It does look extremely nice in the pictures, but I am not really sure that the Q4 is worth the extra premium - and I think that it might be the 200bhp version (?)(pre 2008) - although someone would need to confirm this.

I do like the way the Q4 seems more planted and there is no horrible scrabbling from the front end, and especially if we get more winters like this it is essential for when I am in the country as we live in a steep valley.

Bah, I would settle for any Q4 Ti ( V6 or 2.4 ), but they all seem so rare...

I thought all 2.4 ti's were 210 BHP

It 's great on the outside , but the interior lets it down and yeah it is pricey .

There's a nice Q4 lusso in the classifieds

Be careful with SJ Rayner's I had my fingers burnt with them and botched repairs on a Golf I bought from them. Needless to say I won't touch them with a barge pole!
