dilema!! Need your help! (backing)

right here goes.......

our wee baby is due shortly and i have been offered a job which includes a company car (volvo) so the boss(wife) is tellin me to get rid of my bella(brera) and get a family car I'm strugling to win cos she says i have enough alfas gtv cup and a spider help!!!!! she will be wanting some french made p*sh although i know it makes sense i don't want to get rid of any of them.

Any ideas?? perhaps a vote and whatever the outcome go with the majority

There are child fixing specifically in the back
of the Brera.


Also by taking a car allowance instead of the car you will

Let SWMBO drive round in the company (family) car and you use your Brera for work (unless of course it's a Vulva Estate and you're carrying 3t of tools or you've got to have the companys name plastered over the side or you're a Traffic Cop and the Volvo has stipes and blue lights )

I always laught at people who insist on having a "family" car like a picasso or similar for one child. We managed for the first ten years of my daughter's life in various three-door hatchbacks.

Sell it on safety - 5-star ncap, very rigid bodyshell, small glass area, dynamic (and therefore safe) handling. As Nev says, you should easily be able to cope in a Brera up until toddler size.

Well said Fraser, a mate of mine has a 4-door Passat company car
and is changing it for the CC this year.

All his kidded-up French friends are amazed/jealous that
he drive a "normal" car and don't understand how they
manage.

Have to agree, although i have a 159 SW. We have 2 under 3yr olds and off road pushchairs etc..... and we recently went on one of our many trip to the inlaws (300miles!) and this time i could have got away without using the roofboox if i had not put it on before packing the car up

I got more in my car than my wifes Signum, which we bought for long trips! Although legroom in back is smaller, never understood the people carrier thing, especially with one child....... saw plenty of that while we were on holiday.

I'd keep the Brera especially at the moment or if you have to get a SW Ti?

If you have to change get a 159sw TI - many other posts on here have rated the drive as excellent. And you can tell the 'boss' its a family car. My advice is to compromise with her - if you get what you want you will never NEVER hear the last of it

I this is your first child, then your baby will not need the big child seat for at least a year - will probably just be in one of those travel systems, so will be fine in the back of the Brera.

You'll be surprised at how little 'stuff' you will need to carry around for the first 6 months, at least. You just need some spare nappies and clothes, pram in the boot and you're good to go. It's when they get that little bit older that the 'stuff' starts appearing.

You still don't need a 'family car'/people carrier when you have just one child - they're quite small, you know

However - it very much depends on who will be using it on a day-to-day basis. Will it be you or your wife reaching into the back to strap baby in/get baby out/sort out any problems? If it's you, then you'll be OK - but if it's your wife, then she will curse you every time she does it, because it will be awkward and difficult, and I'm guessing you'd have to love the car to do it.

How about a 159? The rear doors will make a world of difference, the boot is fine (I have a 3 year old, and we manage great), and you still get the driving experience.

How about a Spider like me - take bambino along (pushchair fits nicely behind front seats) and leave the wife at home

I grew up in the back of Ford Capri's, Imp's, Escorts, early 3 series BM's. MPV's, Mini MPV's never happened, and we got on fine.
