Dealers Trade-In prices

I'm looking to trade my 18 month-old Brera JTDM SV for a new one; either another diesel or the S-V6. The main dealer trade-in price (more or less identical at 2 main dealers) against either of those options is really low. Either in in curiosity or desperation, I compared this with a trade-in against a new 350Z - and was surprised that they offered me £2K more for my Brera.
(The 350Z, of course, drives through the correct wheels, is faster, and more economical. Plus the Zagato bodywork makes it half-Italian)
Don't get me wrong, the Brera is my 29th consecutive Alfa, and would dearly love another one - I doubt there are many more enthusiastic Alfisti than me, but bloody hell!..............They don't really help you to stay committed, do they?

Re: Dealers Trade-In prices

Price to change is important here.

1) Nissan may have over allowed rather than discounting the Z
2) Alfa may be bang on book and will not discount the S (well they wont discount an S basically)

Whats the Z got to do with Zagato??? it was designed in the USA by a brummie Indian with and engine from Renault and built in Japan...

350Z is a great car and would make a worthy Brera replacement IMHO.

But it says 'Nissan' on the front. Still, at least the badge probably won't fade

Re: Dealers Trade-In prices

Try another dealer - my mate went to three honda sealers and 2 of them quoted him £5k for his accord against a new model - the third went £6K then £6.5K with a bit of haggeling

With SP on this. Contact as many as you can, find the best two offers then 'Dutch Auction' between the two of them !! It will be a case of who wants the sale the most.

Re: Dealers Trade-In prices

When one of my mates was trading in his wifes merc he took it back and forth between 2 dealers playing them off against each other ... eventually one of them caved in and said "it doesn't matter what offer I make you you're just going to go round the other garage and get another offer" ... which of course was true ...

Re: Dealers Trade-In prices

The two main Alfa agents I've gone to, (one local, and one in Cheshire) both offered me the same trade in as each other, on either a 159JTDM Ti, High-spec Brera JTDM, and the Brera S-V6. Which is why, out of curiosity, I went 'outside the box' to a 350Z. The local main Datsun agent (sorry, Nissan) was far more eager - I have a test drive this afternoon - and said that he would give my Brera a front-row place in the pre-owned car lot. If the RWD 350Z performs anything like, I'll be sorely tempted.
I will still have two more Alfas, I'm not jumping ship - after 35 years of Alfa ownership I've long since lost my route to the gang-plank.

Re: Dealers Trade-In prices

350Z is a very good car, I'd have one ! (I'll probably be asked to leave this site now)

Best engineered car I ever had was a Nissan 200SX. Loved that car, had to go when kids were on the way.

Re: Dealers Trade-In prices

I was tempted by a 350Z roadster - try a third garage further away - you never know what they will offer as youre travelling

Re: Dealers Trade-In prices

There will be discounts for the S, it pays to try a few dealers as they all have different ideas on what they will take for new motor even within the same region, trade in for my Alfa varied by £4k.

Why not keep the Brera?
Unfortunatley the Brera does not hold its value as well as we buyers have been led to believe, although 18 months is probably fastest time for depreciation.
Your right the dealers don't help you to stay committed, how on earth have you been able to afford 29 Alfa's, you must have lost some serious money on them.

You're correct there, Tony!
Only recently have I bought brand new Alfas (the Brera is my third such), all the previous ones were pre-owned (pre-abused might be a better term for some of them). Old-age, lack of time, lack of money and a family to bring up meant I unloaded most of them and thought new ones would give me less hassle - which, other than the hassle of getting to and from the Dealer with various warranty issues, they have done.
I'm currently after either of the 'S' Breras, or a 159 2.4 Ti, if anyone can help me? Also.....if anyone wants a pristine 18 month old Brera 2.4 in black.................................
