Re: 159/Brera 2.4 Fuel Consumption
Like every one else i'm dissapointed with the fuel consumption of my 159 2.4(200). I've done nearly 2500 miles since i picked it up( now 10700 on clock) and the trip computer shows 28.7. it did improve slightly when it passed 10000 and now says that i get just over 30mpg on my commute.
One of the reasons for purchasing the 2.4 was my old 156SW used to always turn in mid 40's and that was driven with true alfa style.
Finally decided to stop clock watching as it makes it as boring to drive as any other car, much more fun not worrying and letting those little torques out of the bag.

Same commute distance as me - Around 30mpg is correct for that, 35mpg possible if I drive with a very light foot but that is no fun! 40mpg possible on a good run. I was an Arese V6 driver/fan and real diesel doubter but the general economy is very good for a powerful car and it is that - I do not regret my choice which was mainly down to GM 3.2 being very poor on juice and having a distinct lack of character!

Re: 159/Brera 2.4 Fuel Consumption
When I bought my Brera (2.4 Diesel) the company stats stated it would return an average 41 mpg. I can't get anywhere near that. The cars computer display shows 31.8 at best. The cars done 12000 since new in 06. It's driven most of the time conservatively on a daily run of 7.5 miles each way, the majority on a straight dual carriage way.
It's had its problems with a new head having to be fitted when a collet spring broke and bent a valve (8000 miles) and recently went back to the dealer for the inlet flow valve sticking causing the engine to shut down into safe mode.
All this now resolved and the car is running well. I'm just frustrated with the MPG. Even on a good steady run it don't go above 35 MPG.
Wouldn't swap for the world as it's beautiful.
Any help on the MPG issue would be appreciated.

My MPG has yet to go above 35mpg even on a good run. It would be interesting to see if anyone in the 2.4 JTDm has.

I've had a 38 and a 41 on long journeys. Also recently had a 34.3 mpg on an extended journey with a fully loaded car and in poor weather. Decent mpg is achievable - it's just so boring to try though.

Hear, hear to that.
9k on mine now and it's become a phenomenal engine. It's well worth the payoff of losing a few mpg to have that lump sat in front of me.
It knocks the 2.2 into a cocked hat and isn't far behind the V6, and gives better mpg than both.
But it's just so much fun!

Today I drove from Melbourne to Canberra - 700km or so, lots of open road driving with a bit of city stuff at each end. It included one DPF regen. I got 6.9 l/100km or about 41 mpg in the old money. I've done the trip a few times and I find that if I set the cruise control just a couple of km/h faster, the average consumption increases to 7.1 or 7.2.

Could you explain what this means - is it something car does itself ? (if so how would you know ?)
TIA,
Mike.
