Re: 159/Brera 2.4 Fuel Consumption
Thus far over the first 2000 miles with my car I have averaged 35-36 mpg. My last tank (calculated brim to brim) was 36.5 mpg, and included 250 miles of cornish country roads before heading the 230 miles back up the motorway (I didn't empty the tank cos I found a cheaper petrol station).

Average speed 70 mph But I suppose it's handy when you have a motorway door to door

Re: 159/Brera 2.4 Fuel Consumption
Just back from South of France - 2715 miles, 52mph average = 34.5mpg.
This was in a fully loaded car with some high speed motorway driving although including a 3 hour traffic jam just south of Calais (Lorry driver protest ) and some cruising around coast (25mpg ). 34.5 mpg not bad I suppose for the mixed drive and fully laden.

Howdy folks - My trip to work is approx 24 miles - and I average 40 mpg+
The reason for this is it's 50% back roads, and 50% heavy use road - meaning I'm going a constant 50mph. However, when I put the boot down the mpg plummets. That's the thing with this car it's not forgiving when you push it.
As for the rattle coming from the dash - have you checked your rear view mirror? I've a replacement waiting for me at the dealer. There was a right rattle coming from the rear view mirror, which is roughly ear height.
I'm not complaining about mpg because my last two petrol cars (A6 & 93) got about 22mpg!

Rear view mirror is a relatively common one. I'm on my third (although it's been fine for a while now).

52 mile trip to work (mainly motorway), average speed 60mph, mpg 37.8.
Journey back coming mainly country lanes instead of motorway, average speed 42mph, mpg 38.4.

Hey Fraser, I didn't know that - I had to have mine replaced when the whole thing randomly dropped off as I was driving along one day. That was fun
In my 2.4, I get around 33mpg, mixed driving, but not much motorway. I'd get more with less right-foot action, but where's the fun in that? Fine by me, this car is so full of oomph (the technical term, so I've been advised ), that I'd be surprised if I got any more. If I was interested in mpg, I'd have bought a Prius
My neighbour is very proud of his 60mpg he gets from his Golf, but I know for a fact he'd swap it for a 159 in a heartbeat

Re: 159/Brera 2.4 Fuel Consumption
Just a note on mpg for the Brera.
I’ve reported this elsewhere too but basically a few weeks ago I checked and adjusted my tyre pressures at a supermarket petrol station.
I then noticed my mpg drop off by about 2 or 3 mpg (I keep an eye on my mpg at every fill up). A loss of 10% of my mpg.
Coincidentally I then read an article that warned that garage/supermarket forecourt air machines should not be trusted and can be way out, so I bought a gauge and found out that each tyre was down by 0.4 bar (minimum 15% out).
Since putting the tyres back to the right pressures I’ve regained that 2 or 3 mpg, so the moral of the story is that incorrect tyre pressure can have significant effect on the mpg of the Brera (as it can on any car).

Very similar conditions/mpg to me. I've recently began to think "sod this, I want to enjoy the car" and started to drive it a bit more.
TBH it's this forum that made me think the car was poor anyway. I bet if I had, say, a 320d and drove it over the same route in the same way it wouldn't be that much better (allowing for the smaller capacity engine).
We're Alfa drivers, we drive enthusiastically, what do we expect?
Anyway - I'm going to have HUGE mpg until tomorrow, since I've just fitted the spacesaver to the rear

That's the best way.
Instead of thinking in terms of 'miles per gallon' I think in terms of 'smiles per gallon' and in my opinion Alfas return much better figures than any other make of car in that respect!

Hi Folks,
Let me assure you, the fuel consumption in the 210 version is no better, I'm getting 32-33 mpg. After getting 45 mpg from my old 156 2.4 JTD 175 bhp.

Re: 159/Brera 2.4 Fuel Consumption
I am getting between 30 - 31 mpg on a mixture of motorway / A roads.
Does anyone have very loud tyre / road noise when doing over 60mph? i have the 18 horseshoe wheels on mine and it is extremely loud on the motorway.
cheers

Re: 159/Brera 2.4 Fuel Consumption
Road noise is quite high with the 18's but I think the pirelli's have a lot to answer for in that regard. I've just fitted Vredestien Sessantas and they are a lot quieter.

Yes. On 17'' Diamond Flat alloys. Road noise from rear left of the car. Only really bad over 60 and on certain surfaces and when I am traveling in the car by myself. Took it back to the dealer and they checked the tyre, the alloy and the balancing and presure of the tyre. All ok Perhaps it is just that tyre Pirelli P Nero Rosso tyres.

OK - initial thoughts.
They are definately quieter and smoother than the Pirelli's. The reason for this is, I think, less sidewall stiffness. There's a slight bounce rather than a crash if you hit a pothole. Also evident in very slightly more play in the steering if you wiggle the wheel while driving straight ahead.
Turn in maybe isn't quite as sharp, but that may be a function of the lack of miles so far.
For day to day driving I prefer them to the p-zeros. Still to give them a good thrash to see how they hold up to spirited driving.
