Having said that, its not very good - especially when you consider most rivals similar engines will probably do 50-100% better than that

Beat it +ve or beat it -ve ??

My overall average is 32mpg including my previous regular Croydon-Heathrow commute.

Just arrived after a 600 mile trek from Croydon to Vevey (Switzerland) and I've averaged 42.4mpg & 74mph.

Indeed... the premium stuff from that garage (near the M25 too) is cheaper than ordinary diesel in a lot of places I pass on my route !!

I meant beat it negative - I doubt anyone gets worse than me.

Just did a trip from Hull to Maastricht via London (about 500 miles) constant mway cruise at around 80mph - 27mpg for the trip.

Im convinced something is wrong with mine - after the new injectors/manifolds and ECU map were put on I was hoping to see a significant improvement, but it hasnt materialised.

My DPF regenerates very frequently, but according to the examiner machine there is nothing wrong. Frequent blasts of 8mpg kinda hurt the overall economy

The only saving grace is that a lot of the diesel I buy is on the continent - I fill a tank etc before coming back to the the UK - if I was having to pay 1.35 pounds per tank id be banging on the door of Alfa even louder than I already am.

Seriously I'd take it to Red Dot or similar and let them have a look on the rolling road/work their magic. As I said my 80-85mph cruising yesterday in France gave 42.4mpg which whilst not at claimed levels is almost acceptable. As a comparison my last Merc C270 manual (5cyl 2.7L 170bhp) used to give 55mpg on the same trip.

With any luck in the next couple of months this one will be gone and ill have a shiney MY08 to tool about in.

I fear for the person that buys mine when it goes through auction though.

I tried driving with a very light foot a couple of months back, just to see what the difference would be, and I managed to sneak it up to about 31mpg on the mway cruise - but that was 70mph with no overtaking - I found myself falling asleep - not worth it for 4 mpg difference!!

Good thread Fraser do let us know what reply you get from Alfa and to whom you speak so we can forward our emails to the same person.

at the moment mine is averaging 31.7 on the on board display on a mixture of roads, but I am due to fill up at the end of this week and work out by the tank full and see if the display is correct and to see the real mpg.

My computer's proving to be pretty accurate - wihtin 0.5mpg of the measured figures. This is actually rather worrying, because I added some Wynn's stuff to my tank last week and the computer is currently indicating 27.7mpg Previous two tanks were 31-32mpg.

Re: 159/Brera 2.4 Fuel Consumption

I'm getting about 34mpg without trying, as my fuel light was on this morning I drove with a very light foot and did a 30 mile commute (50% motorway) with 38mpg.

Although I seem to be better off than many I would certainly welcome better fuel consumption (not to mention another 10 bhp!).

Will definitely weigh in with a letter to ARUK.

Stuff that for a game of soldiers. We could hire a milk tanker and start up our own illicit AO supply.

Re: 159/Brera 2.4 Fuel Consumption

Euroboy i'm a member of your unlucky club.

Had my 06 Brera 2.4JTDM for 6 weeks and it is averaging 24.9mpg! I do a lot of short journeys and drive it like an alfa deserves driving so would expect an overall lower reading but even on long trips (3hrs+ motorway cruising) it's only just hitting 27mpg for the trip. 40mpg is a distant dream, even 30mpg is elusive!

Re: 159/Brera 2.4 Fuel Consumption

Oh dear - I pick up my Brera 2.4 this weekend to replace my 166 3.2

I get rcamo's figures from my glorious V6 - If that is all I am going to get from my first trip to the dark side then it will be a short lived experience!

I'd be surprised if your mpg is in the mid-20's. More average seems to be low 30's.

Re: 159/Brera 2.4 Fuel Consumption

Oh well - The guy I am buying from says he gets 40mpg or more. We will see!

At low 30s still seems rubbish for a smoker but if I want a Brera it seems to be the best engine choice!

Re: 159/Brera 2.4 Fuel Consumption

Filled up last night, and it seems i am getting 32 mpg working it out by the tankfull and 31.6 by the on board computer.

the difference is similar to Fraser's car abou 0.5.

so the computer is not that out after all.

Re: 159/Brera 2.4 Fuel Consumption

I'm getrting on avarage 32mpg and i have a pbox fitted at the highest setting.
I have just had a 15,000 miles service and had the setting put to normal.its hasnt seemed to ahve made a difference on economy.
i must say its the biggest gripe with an otherwise great car.
As i only get 19p a mile back for company mialage, i have started to consider using the train for business as i think after going through 2 tyres at £200 eachin 15000 miles i will be better off!
Thats a shame because i really dont want to endure hours and hours of listening to peoples walkmans and boring telephone conversations.

Re: 159/Brera 2.4 Fuel Consumption

Picked mine up yesterday - Was showing 41.2mpg from previous trip by last owner. Filled it up (ouch!) and travelled 210 miles home - Very enjoyable drive, great pick up and effortless but you know that! 40.2mpg per the computer for that journey.
