Here's another thought... what about the differing mix of premium diesels and their 'performance enhancing additives'... could they affect the DPF

Re: Aggghhhhhh more DPF problems

Hmmmm - I though I had too Nomes.

Just before my DPF failed (about 10 miles or so) I'd filled the car from empty on a tank of BP Ultimate diesel @ £1.32/lt!!!

Re: Aggghhhhhh more DPF problems

Well I've been using V-Power for a while now H but was thinking more along the lines of problems in the future caused by continued use of premium diesel !!

Currently paying £1.30 pl

I'm using Wynn's at the moment and the car is running better. Fuel consumption is slightly up though, but that's only on one tank and I've done fewer A-road miles recently.

Re: Aggghhhhhh more DPF problems

I'm not questioning the performance or mpg side of additives F

What could the Wynns possibly be doing to the coatings in the DPF

Is Wynn's another one of those diesel additives Fraser? We have one in Australia called Wynn's Spitfire. Named perhaps after your famous fighting WW2 airplanes?

According to the blurb it's just the same additives that are used to improve the performance for superfuels (Ultimate, V-max etc))

Yes and I'm wondering if they (Superfuels or additives) will have a detrimental effect on the DPF

This has now been suggested by another AOer....

Advised by their dealer NOT to add superfuels....

Anyone care to comment??

Re: Aggghhhhhh more DPF problems

Soot, needs a chimney sweep?: Low on exited particulates compared to Benzine motors? Well they keep it up the chimney don't they, those oil burners to qualify? Not very helpful but I'm a sweet fuel person.

Twas me - specifically told by THE main AR dealer that BP Ultimate/Shell V Power are known to cause issues. Also told by an unconnected 3rd party that there's a tech bulletin to dealers re this but it hasn't yet been communicated to owners - great eh !

Re: Aggghhhhhh more DPF problems

I ran my 159 on BP ultimate for a year without any issues. As soon as I start to use standard fuel it begins to run rough (not loss of power rough, but just rough). I am currently adding Wynn's to standard stuff and it's a smooth as a baby's bum and almost feels as good as the 210 engine.
