Clarkson & the 159

Just got the new book from Clarkson. Anyone read it yet?

Well the last review or chapter is on our beloved Alfa 159. Well worth the read I can tell you.

Makes me feel proud that I made the right choice when I was going to get a BMW 325D M sport. Got a TI in the end.

Anyway has anyone had the alfa wave yet? I havent and when I did come across an 159 Lusso in the same colour as mine (red) this week in Margate the driver gave a look that I have just landed from outer space.

Maybe he was cheesed off that I had the some colour, dunno, but I wanted him to wave and give me that Alfa wave.

It never came.

Re: Clarkson & the 159

To be fair I have read a few of clarksons books and he mentions AR quite a bit - I may get them scanned and post the reviews, I seem to remember him raving about the GTV somewhere in one of the books as well as a 156.

Re: Clarkson & the 159

That Clarkson story in his book is the thing that made me take a look at the 159. Wouldn't have even considered one prior to that, so the guys from Alfa probably owe him a few beers. Must be a few people like me in the world.

Happy Birthday

I have just read the 147 article, sounds like a scream.

I must also say that it was Clarkson who made me look at the Alfa too.

I owe him a beer also.

Re: Clarkson & the 159

It's either Don't Stop Me Now or Born to be Riled - I have both - think it's the first one.

Re: Clarkson & the 159

Hi chaps

The book in question is "Don't Stop Me Now". It's funny really 'cos I was in two minds about replacing my very lovely 166 Super (another of JC's faves) with a 159. It was this review, originally printed in the Sunday Times that convinced me to give it a go - and the 2.2 JTS at that! And guess what, I went for that totally pant-wetting combo of black/tan leather just to be sure. Time to get that watch outa my 'ass now......

Re: Clarkson & the 159

Clarckison!! OK, you've got me started. The man has 5 or maybe 6 brain cells. Unfortunately they have incompatible connections. He thinks 43532 year old jokes are funny. His hair looks like it should be decorating his co**ck. His dress sense - well, let's leave it there. He even thinks he has good taste in music!! Can you imagine that great gangly streak of cack 'Rock[ing] You All Night Long?' Well excuse my unwillingness to jump on the bandwagon, but it really isn't for me
And then there's his 'political' views. Controversial! Slightly to the left of Douglas Hurd more like
And doing what he gets paid at least £58 trillion pounds a minute for - i.e. driving cars - he doesn't even seem to realise that pressing the brake pedal (If your reading this Jerry - that's the one in the middle) disengages the cruise con!!!!!!!!!!!!! And if he could actually get 2 of those precious brain cells to connect he'd realise that the best place to keep your right foot when driving with cruise con on is on the middle pedal - greatly reduces thinking time (see highway code)

Re: Clarkson & the 159

I think the best one is from Motorworld (i think!!) when he was driving a mondeo in Italy and passed a guy (italian) in a Fiat Uno and this guy busted a gut to re-pass him.... his description of the guy is brill...

Re: Clarkson & the 159

Yes this was a great article, helped make my mind up on the 159

He may live in cukoo land half the time with all the money he pulls in, but the guy -for all his bad hair cuts and terrible fashion- cracks me up with some of the things he comes out with. He does speak some utter tripe, but for overall entertainment value I think it's great.

Roll on the next series of top gear - only show I really make an effort to watch

Re: Clarkson & the 159

‘The 2.2 (front-wheel drive) has the performance of a plant.’ (Brera)

‘The 2.2 litre engine is a peach that just begs to be taken outside and given a damn good thrashing. It just gives you a simple four-cylinder engine that, all on its own, sounds better and better until you’re up at 6500 when it sounds like a metallic werewolf. But the engine, torquey, powerful and smooth though it may be, is not the best part of this car.’ (159)

Jeremy Clarkson talking about the same engine…enlightenment anyone?
