It's an official Alfa press release.
I thought I was behind the times with my thread - http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/gener...aboration.html

Re: The Brera S
I did have a quick look but couldn't see anything.
It won't be a GTA though.

Re: Alfa Romeo Announces Prodrive Collaboration
I do wonder given the Spyder 2.2 LE and now the Pro Drive 2.2S (and 3.2S) whether Alfa are simply inventing novel ways of shifting 2.2 engines in readiness for the 1.8 turbo due soon (?) I can't imagine tweaking the handling of the Brera calls for a dose of rocket science but the fact that Pro Drive is responsible might attract some people. Personally I think it a shame this couldn't have been done in-house by Alfa, somehow the two names just don't go together for me. No disrespect Pro Drive.

Re: Alfa Romeo Announces Prodrive Collaboration
Another Alfa limited production run of 500.... How come the really decent cars are limited when they could probably shift a lot more units?

Re: The Brera S
Agree. Nor the 159. It'll be the 149. Might consider one if they get it right.
Cheers,

But it probably won't cost much more than a standard Brera (if the recent GT, 147 & Spider ltd editions are anything to go by) and I imagine it'll have an LSD in the front wheel drive versions. And if my speculations are correct the 2.2 will get the 4-pot brakes as well, and with the chassis stiffening, lowering, it'll transform the handling.. Gotta be worth a few K if thats what you're into, as you'd spend that on aftermarket bits at least!

Re: New Prodrive Brera S
'Hardcore' Will that mean hard ride?
Will be interesting to see what weight saving will be made and how it effects performance and economy.
The best Alfa could do with the 08 cars was 25Kg.

Re: New Prodrive Brera S
I think the supercharger was really quite expensive, so they hope to make it sportier by adjusting suspension and lightening a bit... Hmmm I'm happy with mine!

Re: New Prodrive Brera S
Another half baked attempt.
More power and lighter please, how hard can it be?!
Rather than, lets save weight by pulling off the 4wd system and keep it FWD with a car pushing over 250hp. Plain lazy imo, why waste giving that money to Prodrive?
I would prefer Alfa kept it in house and made the improvements that people actually want.

Might not cost much more than standard, but I bet you will get a resonable discount on the standard Brera where you will have to pay full wack for the Brera S.
Don't see the point in the Brera S unless there are significant improvements in performance, it already handles well, although the brakes could be improved. I imagine it will be based on 08 cars so it would have the electronic Q2.
I believe that Prodrive are known more for their suspension, brake and exhaust tweaks rather than engine tuning.

Good point about the discounts on the standard Brera.. You're probably right there. The Brera has a great compromise between handling and ride comfort, its got the balance right better than the previous generation of Alfa's, but thats if you are assuming the Brera is a grand tourer, not a sports car. I think the Brera S will be for people who want a sports car rather than a GT.
I wonder about the electronic Q2.. I really hope it does have a proper one of some sorts, rather than the electronic version, but I'm not holding out much hope.

Back on the road: Alfa 156 3.0 24v V6, Silver with red leather, Q2 diff, GTA Teledials, headlights & inlet manifold, AutoDelta carbon intake,
decat pipe and SuperSprint rear box, FK coilovers, Dastek Unichip - my 245bhp beast!
Gone but not forgotten: Alfa 156 2.4 JTD Veloce, Vela Blu, Angel 'mad map' & BMC CDA, Ferodo DS2500s - the fastest tractor in town!

Re: New Prodrive Brera S
That Italiaspeed article is wrong - I swear that black Brera is not at ProDrive Banbury but at Hatton - ProDrives test track just down the road from me. Drive past there most days and I'm sure thats the exit. Its a well hidden place - former Spitfire Airfield and was where they had planning permission to build their F1 factory though I think thats being knocked on the head with the customer car ruling.........Will drive past tonight and try to spot!!!!

I really can't see the 2.2 being classed as a 'Sports car' as the engine isn't being tweaked and I don't think that removing a bit of weight will make that much difference.
