It is as if the car is going to stall when pulling away, so you have to give the car higher revs and in doing that you take off as if in a race.
I noticed that you have a 159 JTD the problem is only with the 2.2JTS petrol engines.

ahhh i see... well thats not very good but still its not a major problem i guess..
i do have a 1.9 jtdm and thinking of a 1.9jts and perhaps a 2.2 spyder u never know...
so i was wondering if it would be bad to get a 2008 2.2 spyder if it has this issue...

It does have this issue and it would be nice to have a fix from Alfa but I doubt it will happen. That said, the car is still more than driveable and you soon get used to it.

Yes its driveable... but I am not willing to accept the way it drives. A car that looks as good should drive even better. Everytime I drive throught the flatspot, I cant help but be disappointed! There better be a fix on the way as I am not prepared to let this issue go.....

Agreed. I've been pushing this with Alfa since I started this thread, and am cognisant of the opinions that it won't be fixed. I too am not prepared to let this go, my last three cars have been Alfas, if it is not fixed within six months (I plan keeping the car two years) the 159 will be on it's way and my business will be taken elsewhere in future.

re: 2.2 JTS hesitation - now with new IMPORTANT information & escalation details
I'm glad to have read all these posts on this issue - having only got my Brera a week ago I just thought the car had a really short 1st gear (forgive me for sounding a bit dumb, but I'm not massively technically minded..) when obviously I am hitting the flatspot. I'm still also driving my old BMW323i coupe which is a totally different beast, 2.5 litre 6 pot and I have to say I am finding the Brera a bit disappointing at lower revs - almost makes me feel like I should have stayed with what I had. However, BMW's are bleedin' everywhere and the Brera is a fine looking piece of work so anything that will solve this like the AD remap that has been mentioned sounds like a good idea, but will this invalidate warranty? Glad to be here among so many like minded souls...

Give the engine some miles to loosen up. The 2.2 is a very good engine and just gets better and better the more miles you pile on.

I just got mine and yes, the flat spot is definitely there but in the week I've been driving I just learnt to drive around it, no big deal really.

It doesn't bother me that much but my missus hates it, plus she's gonna burn out my bloody clutch with the revs she gives it

re: 2.2 JTS hesitation - now with new IMPORTANT information & escalation details
Had a call last night from a company checking up on my dealings with Alfa customer service.
Unfortunately for Alfa I wasn't able to say nice things about them or give them high scoring marks as I'm still waiting for a fix to the hesitation problem and feel that I've just been fobbed off by Alfa.

I had the exact same thoughts. At least it isn't really notable on my '08 Ti

Don't understand how newer cars don't
have the problem at the same time as
Alfa says there is no fix and the hesitation is normal.
Makes no sense.

It's very very true. We currently have 2 x 2.2 JTS engines, one which has done almost 10,000 miles and one which has done 500 miles. The one with 50o miles on it seems slow and heavy. The one with 10,000 miles on it feels like the engine has an extra 30 - 40 Bhp and the car feels light and fast.
It's great!
PS Don't even think about a remap until you've done at least 6000 miles... actually I'd say 10,000 miles.

Second that - it's absolutely right, Alfa's best kept secret!

i agree...
