I have seen one of those (when new) to have a good poke around, not been in one though in motion. Engine was a dream, car was... lets say it would not have been my first choice of destination at the time, it was more Maserati style motering than M3/S4...
Not sure what the local dealer workshop would make of it though if one rolled in between a Panda and a Punto
I can't see any truth in any GTA rumours, that slide above is about 2 years old by the way, I would say search the forum but now the GTA and GT forum is in with 156 and 147 you'll never find the posts...

I'm not surprised you can't find what you're looking for - the GTA forum isn't in with the 147, 156, and GT.
Even though it should be.

Re: Alfa 159 GTA ?
Spoke to a techie at a dealer recently. He said he was just back from the Alfa test track in fair Italy and there was a 159 GTA pounding around there with the Maserati V8 engine in it.
MiTo GTA also scheduled soon.
169 will be RWD and based on the Maserati Q'portte floorplan. Alfa and masserati to move closer together, all GM engines to be dumped. 2.2 JTS particularly unloved ( )
Whether this is true or hearsay I dunno..........

Re: Alfa 159 GTA ?
there were pics of a 'rumoured' GTA 159 banded around on the interweb a while ago ... some silver car with a great big Alfa logo on the bonnet ... not your normal development prototype when you normally try to hide what you're doing ... which makes me think it wasn't a GTA but instead some tuner boys having some fun ... could always be wrong
The one GTA I'd like to know what happened to is the Brera GTA , there were some camera phone shots from a conference a year or so ago ... was rumoured to again be powered by said Ferrari/Masser V8 ... but alas no car ... the problem is you put a big engine in these things and still have to pass crash tests ... 'killed' (poor choice of words I know) quite a few fast cars that I'm aware of ... oh and then there's the whole programme finance and the 'how much is the development going to cost', 'can we actually sell them?' and 'how much will we have to sell them to the public?' questions that need to be answered.

Salesman like to sell what they got in stock....not what might come at some point....
Have anyone met a car salesman they trust? By telling you that the 159 GTA is going to be built. He is at the same time killing his own sale....

Re: Alfa 159 GTA ?
2.2 JTS particularly unloved ( )
By whom? One year on I love this engine: it revs freely, it uses no oil, it does not have strange "diesel like noises" from the variator, huge in-gear acceleration, sounds great from the outside (could sound better from the inside!), and no fear of a belt snapping anytime soon because it has a chain ...and now Autodelta have a Supercharger for it that bumps it up from 185bhp to 245bhp
BTW my perfect 159 GTA , worthy of the name would be a lightened 2.2JTS Ti (down to 1300 kg) using composite material to lighten panels, Autodelta Supercharger and with a Prodrive suspension kit as per the new Brera S.

Re: Alfa 159 GTA ?
I've had one long term Alfa techie tell me he thought the 2.2 was the least Alfa like engine for a very long time. I'm not saying I agree with him, I'm just repeating what he said.

Re: 159 Gta
I'm learning to like the 2.2JTS. The low revs response is poor, this is now well documented, but at 2500 and above it's a gem.

Re: 159 Gta
the he-said-she-said rumours have been ongoing for years, just search the forum.
Until there is some conclusive proof, like one siting on a stand at a motor show, its all just rumours.
Besides, why would Alfa UK launch a model that has a V8 with today's petrol prices!!! Someone at the top at Alfa is thinking lets make a Mito that does 70mpg in my view, not lets make a 159 that does 7.

It certainly has'nt got that rorty induction noise you get from a Twin Spark and I am reminded of that when I drive my wifes 145 TS. However theres a narrow bridge near where I live that takes one way traffic at a time and when I rev the 2.2 JTS through it in 2nd gear the engine and exhaust noise bouncing off the walls of the bridge is one of the best I have experienced outside of a Ferrari. It revs like an Alfa should and I'd say that has to do with the Alfa head, it use no oil, gives no variator problems, has huge in-gear acceleration, no fear of belt snaps and fuel consumption is not bad for a 185bhp saloon that weighs 1490kg (around 25mpg in town and 35mpg on open road).

Re: 159 Gta
The salesman I spoke to the other day said that they were expecting a 159 GTA, but didn't know when. He did say it wouldn't be before the MiTo GTA.

Re: 159 Gta
Any updates on the 159 GTA???
Rumour has it that Alfa is going to be putting a Ferrari V8 under the hood and its gonna have 4WD. I would assume that this car would be the best car in the world, if all the rumours are true.
Think of it....
