Whoever is responsible for it.............they've got their 15 mins of fame.... even going to lengths of black taping up like they do with 'rea' prototypes.

Alfa 147 2.0 TS

Re: alfa 159 gta!

Built as a successor for the 156 GTA, the 159 GTA (Gran Turismo Allegerita) will feature rear spoiler, unlike its predecessor, large low-profile tyres, slightly flared wheelarches, and side skirts.

But how will Alfa-Romeo build a 400 hp car, as until now they didn’t had this kind of powertrain? It is very easy actually: with a little help from Maserati-Ferrari.

So, under the hood there will be a 4.3 litre V8 engine built as an evolution of the 4.244 cc GranSport unit. The engine delivers around 440 bhp at 7000 rpm with 505 Nm of torque. And it only weights 183 kg. The very good news about this engine is that with minimum of modifications it can deliver more of 500 hp. But Alfa Romeo we keep the target under 420 hp, as the M3 delivers 414 hp.

The V8 engine will be mated with a wheel-drive system and, probably, sequencial gear. That is why the future Alfa Romeo 159 GTA has all the right characteristics to challenge without fear its aggressive German competitors: not only 400 horsepower, but also high handling quality and reliability!

The V8 engine will be mounted transversely similar to the old Lancia Thema 8.32. Compared to the standard 159 it will loose 130 kg. Part of the weight reduction are going to be high-performance parts such as Brembo CCM (Composite Ceramic Material) brakes, used only in high performance cars such as the Ferrari F430.

The 2009 159 GTA will make the 0 to 60 mph sprint in less than 4 seconds and its top speed will be limited to 155 mph.

This will make buying a Ferrari redundant sick and tired of all these M3's hustling on the streets and always driven by homeless to$$ers who have taken out dodgy loans to buy them. It amazes me when some low life, who literally cant string two words together owns some £60k motor.

Re: 159 Gta

An Alfa with a Ferrari engine sounds like a winning combo to me. I'm definitely gonna get one and give those M3s a run for their money on track days....

That is if they really do make it....

Re: 159 Gta

Well, here's what Alfa told me:

"All we can say is that we will see the GTA badge sooner but on another car rather than the Alfa 159!"

A 159 with a big engine doesn't sound very GTAish to me.... Also, Fiat is confusing their brand values if they put Ferrari engines in Alfas. I think the 149 GTA is far more likely, as they have so much riding on that car.

Cheers,

Nigel

I was told it won't be soon that the GTA name will return, but it will return at some point.

Re: 159 Gta

Anyone remember the Lancia Thema 8.32?? A previous effort at putting a Ferrari engine in a Fiat group product. I think it wasn't a bad car but sales in this country were dismal. Lets hope for better.

Alfa should have ironed out the bugs in engineering this Maserati / Ferrari drivetrain with the 8C

Ferrari is the cousin of Alfa, nothing wrong with a bit of incest in this respect!

I think this picture is now quite old.

With the current talk about carbon emission cuts I wonder if it makes any sense Alfa spending money on a V8 installation - despite BMW and Audi having them

Re: 159 Gta

I dont know what to make of this. It seems a little strange that Alfa would voluntarily make this secret car public viewing. Maybe its real, maybe its not, but i can guarantee it wont look like that when its on sale. If that day ever comes.

Re: 159 Gta

Hmmm. If it's a branding presentation, they've got the wrong font for the GTA logo. Harummph. A bit rich for me - will have to wait until they are 2-3 years old methinks. Don't know if I want to go to a V8 the way tax and petrol are going but it looks interesting.

Cheers,

Nigel

Plus, have you seen the date of the article? It's from forever ago.

Anyway, that's a doctored photo, the real presentation was on an entirely different subject:

Nice one - why didn't I spot that! I still think 149 GTA will be the way they go.
