Re: Fob re-programming
Assuming your car has the Code1 system (which I think it is if you have a brown key) then you dont need to go to a main dazzler to get it programmed.
There is a procedure to DIY it but you need 3 keys, a master and 2 regulars, to complete the coding sequence. It goes something like this:
Turn on the ignition with the master key and when the code light goes out take out the key.
Immediately put in the first red key and turn on the ignition and again take out that key when the code light goes out.
Immediately put in the 2nd red key and turn on the ignition and take out the key once the code light goes out.
Finally put back in the master, turn on the ignition, when the code light goes out turn the key to the STOP position but dont remove the key for about 5 secs. Dont leave the master in too long at this stage because that's how to clear the whole sytem 8-o
Alternatively you can just get a new key, get it cut by your local locksmith and then swap the transponder from the old key into the new one - much easier!
BTW you can test if your master key is actually the real original master for your ecu by : turning on the ignition with the master, wait for the code light to go out and then turn the key to the STOP position. Immediately turn back on the ignition and , if its the real key, the code light does NOT go out the second time. Handy check when buying an Alfa.
