155 with idle issues

kinda new at all this but my 155 idle is wayy off.

I had a look around and saw the Idle control valve is a common prob and took that off and cleaned it out with WD40. it helped but its still really crap.

Have read alot about these Lambda sensors. wat are they?? Since in NZ have no MOT or emissions tests so how do you go about testing it other ways.

For an even stranger one the cars idle drops way off (sub 500) and often stalls when rolling backwards (in reverse out the drive). Maybe a hint, i dont know. Usually its up around 700-900 jumping round spluttering away.

Anyway cheers for the help.

Re: 155 with idle issues

a 155 in NZ??? very cool, we've considered moving out there and you're telling me I can take my car with me?

anyway, your problem, to test the lambda you unplug it on the bulk head, almost dead centre, flatish 4 wire connector, may be under a black plastic cover and test the resistance of the heater wire, 2 white wires, anything over 4 ohms and it's knackered.

but poor idle could also be air flow meter or an air leak some where on the inlet tract, the 8valve cars are (in)famous for cracking the rubbers which connect the manifold to the plenum chamber, just under the fuel rail so check these 1st

Re: 155 with idle issues

haha yea you could take your car. it would be easier than finding one in nz. there arent many. will test the lambda sensor when im back home. and have a look at the gasket

i hope its something easy and common cause parts are few and far between
