Re: Low oil pressure when hot
back to this again....
OK I have got a full rebuild on the engine. New cams, valves, valve guides and seals, variator, oil pump, water pump, new crank shaft and bearings, new pistons 0.4, new rings 0.4, new shocks, fitted some xenons, new thermostat, and removed the catalictic converter.
After a severe overheating issue when I bought the car I had the head skimmed and re fitted it. I ran the car without the thermostat since mine had jammed shut and I couldn't get a new one at the moment. The car was using 1 litre of oil every 300km and pressure seemed a bit low.
started cold it would be at 4 bar but when hot it would idle at around 1 bar sometimes falling to zero (warning lights don't work, not even the coolant temp one) when reving it would never reach 4 bar, usually it would be around 3,5 alomost 4 but never 4.
Now after this rebuild I see I still have the same oil pressure!
This is making me very worried.
I used to use 20w50 mineral oil but after the rebuild I went to a full synthetic 5w40.
What could be causing this low oil pressure?
After fitting the head from the overheating issue, the first week I would get around 2 bar at idle and 5 bar when reving. But that only lasted the first week, then pressures dropped to what I said above.
I had my mech check the gauge also before fitting the head last time and he said it was showing the correct values.
So what the hell is the story here? Everything is brand new.
I just don't want to ruin the engine again after spending so much.
