2.0 8v TS OIL What type?? Addatives ???

Hi Iam going to change the engine oil in my 155 tomorrow, having looked at previous posts there seems to be alot of conflicting ideas on whats best. I do not race or rally my alfa just open it up occasioally as you do the engine has covered quite high mileage now so I dont think a fully synthetic is a good idea as it will probabily dissapear straight out the exhaust! is the correct weight 10w/40?? I was thinking along the lines of Castrol's GTX Magnetec Any good???? Also was considering using an addative alomg the lines of slick 50 or something similar, I do not want an extra 10bhp !!! as some claim just want to help protect my slightly elderly engine and reduce engine wear as much as possible. All input greatfully recieved folks. Ta

A good 10/40 I've used for a while, in our 100,000 mile runabout is Valvoline Max Life. Supposedly conditions seals, Etc. and is recommended for high mileage motors.Quality semi -synthetic, 10/40 should be ok I reckon.:

don't puit the slick50, in the best case it'll just clog up your oil filter... You don't even want to kow what happens in the worst case scenario...

A good semi-synthetic will suffice. Look at the API-rating. SM would be perfecr, SL slightly less.. SG is the minimum requirement (nowadays used as lawnmower oil...)

I'd go for Halfords semi synthetic at the moment. It has a higher API rating than Magnatex (go figure) and you get 5 litres in the green can for a few quid less than Castrol charges for 4.
