To change the belt without taking it off was featured in a magazine a while ago.
Take off all the covers/pulleys to expose the existing belt as if you were going to slide it off.
Slacken the tensioner a little giving some slack, but not enough for the teeth on the belt to jump on the pulleys.
Have a sharp stanley knife to hand and cut the belt along its length as you turn over the engine by hand - making it half as wide.
Cut and remove the 'outer half' then slide on the new belt (as the belt is half the width, half of the cam belt pulleys will be exposed giving enough to slide on a new belt. You could still turn over the engine by hand to assist getting the new belt on as you still have the old half keeping timing.
Cut off the old 'inner half' and slide on the new belt the rest of the way and re-tension.
