What you should also check is that the handbrake jobbie is not sticking on.
If you loosen the tension on the cable at the handbrake itself (nut under the lever) then take the handbrake off... you should then wind the piston in or out just enough so that the pads fit over the disc. I remember I was told to definitely NOT wind the piston right out and then take out the slack by pumping the pedal. My advice was take out the minimum amount of slack this way.
Afterwards, re-tighten the handbrake cable tension and Robert's your mother's brother.
But where the pads touch the caliper body has to be clean and greased up.. that'd be my contender.. My old pads were stuck in there.. as the edges of the pad backing plate rust, expand and jam in the space.
