Re: Alfa 155 8v 1.8 performance figures
Welcome to the 8v club, you've made a wise choice!! The book states that the engine puts out around 130bhp but that assumes that everything is in good condition.
The performance is adequate but you may want to consider improving things as you go along. An easy and cheap way of increasing performance is replacing the very restrictive airbox and ducting with an item from a V6. Although the airbox is almost identical the ducting is very short and sits directly behind the air inlets on the front bumper. Result, better airflow.
An alternative is to use a K&N filter etc, but the cost is quite high and the increase in performance minimal.
My 1.8 is fitted with a supersprint exhaust and has been chipped together with the V6 airbox modification. A recent rolling road test revealed it was producing 156bhp @ 6875 rpm. Although I very rarely use this performance, wnen I do the car is very rapid and gives some of the hot hatch boys a suprise!!
Regarding fuel consumption, on long runs I regularly get 34-38 mpg and although I've never calculated the figures when town driving I don't have to vist the petrol station very often.
Enjoy your car!!
