V6 gearbox compatibility??

Hi does anyone know if the gearboxes from any of the newer V6 Alfas i.e. GTV Spider and also 164 etc that use the 24valve v6 can be bolted to a 12valve block??

The parts CD seems to show the bellhousing is the same but none of the complete boxes for any of the models are the same. This could be because the ratios are different, or there could be many more differences like the splines/clutch mechanism etc.. any ideas.

Re: V6 gearbox compatibility??

I bolted a 2.5 155 grear box on to a 164 3.0 engine if thats any help. took some messing about , but all the bolts lined up in the correct holes, but there was a drive shaft carrier that needed drilling and fixing to the 3.0 engine to take the 155 driveshaft arrangement

I guess what im saying is that you need to get them on the floor n have a look

There are also possible problems with gear linkage - the early 12v and the 24v certainly have a different setup - not sure if all facelift 164s use the newer system or just the 24v.
