My K reg 155 1.8 recently developed a fault which my local Alfa garage can't explain. between 1500 and 2000 revs on a hill it completely loses power. The clutch is fine, biting nicely, spark plugs are recently cleaned, brand new ignition leads. My garage think it's all over and advise me to scrap it, they say the only thing to look at now is the throttle and that is going to cost me £100's. I'll be honest...I'm female, never owned an Alfa before and know nothing about engines but I'm trying to learn and I love my 155.... I'm worried I'm falling foul of the old 'girl in a garage' routine....can any of you help and tell me what I should be asking????
i have a 1.8 8v, and it does tend to get the hump if you dont feed it some beans up hills. i live in devon with hills everywhere i go, so ive got used to it now.
was the garage you took it to an Alfa Dealer? the reason i ask is they told me to scrap my 155 after its roof got dented, even though its repairable and will be perfectly sound when fixed. they told me that it was a 'very undesirable model' therefore not worth bothering with. then promptly pointed me in the direction of their sales office to look at a 156
if you are still worried about its performance and want it checked over i would recommend an independent Italian car specialist, as they tend to be much more passionate about keeping things going rather than scrapping them and ive always found them to be much more helpful.
im a girlie too, so i can totally sympathise with what youre saying about some garages!!!
