Lambda Probe - fault light on disconnection?

Hi, I have a 2.0 16v 97 (motronic 2.10.4) which is suffering from flat spot between 2k-3k RPM on light pedal. I decided to disconnect the lambda probe to test if any better (it improved considerably) but for my surprise the fault light of the injection did not illuminate even after a 20 minute journey. To make sure fault light works I disconnected then the Temp sensor and fault light lit immediately.

So the question is if lambda prove should illuminate if disconnected, my theory is that ECU considers in that case that mixture is too lean (due to values close to 0volt) so it enriches the mixture, but it should generate a fault code considering that mixture never get to lambda close to 1 value even after enriching the mixture. Any clue?
