No, I wouldn't name and shame the first guy. He's a friend of mine, and not someone who would usually do Alfa's, and wouldn't be someone I'd send an Alfa friend to. My usual mechanic is on holidays until August 2nd (Gerry Campbell of T.I. Autos).
The guy who ended up doing te job for me and correctly diagnosing the problem was George Frayne based in Naas.
He does rally cars too (so you know he's at the top end of the market). He used to be a FIAT/Alfa main dealer. He also has 6 Peugeot 205 GTI's - of which the registration plates on 2 of them are "205 GTI" and "GTI 205" - 2 perfectly legal "Tipperary" registered old type reg plates - and he wont sell for any money
His work is first class and based on €50 per hour he's not extortionate !!
