Unbelievable, but true. My lovely spotless N-plate 2.0 16V with only 45k on the clock has just bitten the dust. How, I don't know. But it has.
On the way back home yesterday, I revved it up a bit more than usual, but only to about 6k rpm - not even hitting the limiter. It only happened the once. When I slowed down, I could hear a noise I never thought I'd ever hear -- a loud knocking noise. Immediately I slowed to a crawl and limped home, the engine thunking and clattering all the way.
Called the RAC man out this morning to tell me what his professional opinion was. He virtually confirmed what I feared -- "the engine's had it mate, probably a crank bearing or piston ring".
I fear that it'll cost more than I paid for the car to get a specialist to take the engine apart to find out what the problem is, let alone fix it. So the best option I see right now is: get hold of another 155!
Yeah I know, everyone says I'm crazy, but I'm not put off them by this. This could happen to anyone with any other type of car, right? Er... right?
If anyone's selling a 2.0 16V, pref. under 100k with FSH and no damage/rust, please get in contact. Better still, if anyone knows where I could find a widebody Q4 (anywhere in western Europe) also let me know!!
Oh well, life goes on.
