In my previous thread I mentioned a hard noise from the engine. This seems to be an engine bearing (from the camshaft). I can get it repaired butt I think its getting pretty costly. I am driving the 1.8 16v, isnít it cheaper to get a second hand engine?? Does the 2.0 litter engine fit (with a new ecu?)
I donít know if all is gone to pieces in the engine, its still running fine, accept for the noise...
How do you know its a camshaft bearing? From experience, and many threads, the common one is the cam timing variator. It woud be a shame to junk a perfectly good engine.
Also, you'd need the ECU AND the Alfa Code immobiliser box which is matched to the ECU. If another ECU is connected to the immobiliser control unit, then the sequence of revolving code is put out of sync, and the original ECU also becomes useless.
It can be reset with dealer diagnostic equipment, providing you have the master key, but a second hand ECU on its own, without its Alfa Code immobiliser control unit, and master key will always be useless.
