Heater Fan Motor

The aircon/heater fan motor in my 1994 155 2.0 twinspark has developed horrible bearing noise.

The cost of a new motor from genuine sources is exhorbitant.

Has anyone found an aftermarket source for these motors?

Are they common to any other models?

Thanks in advance

Re: Heater Fan Motor

There is a sequel to this.

I stripped the motor and removed the bearings, which are self aligning bushes (look like phosphour bronze?) retained in place by spring steel plates.

The bearing and bearing surface at the impellor end of the shaft had a lot of clearance (too much!).

I polished the bearing and the bearing surface on the shaft with fine wet and dry paper and swapped the bearings to the other ends of the shaft.

This reduced the clearance at the impellor end to a more reasonable level.

Lubricated with engine oil and reassembled the fan has run quietly since then.

This was a zero cost experimental fix which didn't fill me with confidence at the time but we shall see.

Re: Heater Fan Motor

Missed this one Tony, I had the same and merely swapped one from my scrappy which is still going fine.

The excessive clearance you mention must have been the symptom I had as it squealed worse going round right handers. The fan was obviously "leaning" on corners

Glad you sorted it at no cost
