Has anyone driven both a 155 2.0 TS and a 164 2.0 TS? I can't make my mind up over which to go for. What's the real world performance/mpg difference? on paper they look similar - is this the case? And is the 16v 155 much quicker in reality? Thanks, Ed
The 155 has the Twinspark engine that's derived from FIAT, has an iron block and is still in use in the 147 and I think in the 166 with slight changes. I think it has 150hp and has a 16v head.
The 2.0 in the 164, is also a Twinspark, but 8v, chain driven and an original alfa engine, the same as the one in the 75. It's a totaly alloy engine and gives about 148Hp. Some say this engine is more willing than the newer one, especially at lower revs. But the 164 must weigh more, so I'm not sure if it's any faster.
hope I helped
all the best
Driving is a Passion... but doing it with an Alfa is a way of life...
I don't think straight line performance matters, the handling is more of a factor. The 164 is good but feels like a boat compared to a 155, especially round town. Imagine it would be great for crossing america though, but then a 155 would be too.
But yours is the 16v, or do you mean the 2,0 16v will be a good deal quicker?
155 for budding racers or over aged boy racers.
164 for old men who drive with a hat on.
156 for people that have too much money but still want an Alfa. Boring!
166 I want a 166, so, 166 for 155 owners who are fed up of the wife nicking the car.
