Crazed Power Steering - is it that simple?

Little story:
watching Wheeler Dealers on Home and Leisure and they were doing a ( sorry ) BMW 325i Touring. They changed the power steering fluid...

They just undid the bottom Pipe and let it all drain out
Fixed it back on and topped up the fluid
Switched on the engine and did Lock-to-lock a couple of times
Checked the fluid again...

...and job done

Is it that simple with Itallian Stallions or are they prone to the usual AlfaQuirks.

If it's that simple, I might do it tommorrow - it hasn't been done in nearly 80,000 miles!

Oh! They also used Automatic Transmission Fluid - would that be OK on Alfas or are they as picky with these fluids as they are with Engine Oil ?

( just thought I'd use this smilie, I haven't been in the forum for a while and it's my favourite one! - how's it going Ted, Wrinx?)

To be honest I don't know (never done it) but doing the lock to lock operation will bleed the system so it sounds about right.

Yeah... ATF is the general name for PS fluid. The Alfa TS stuff is jet black for some reason, and the normal stuff is bright red... raspberry like!
I believe you are supposed to do the lock-to-lock with the front of the car suspended so you don't overload the pump if it's pumping dry.
Air is pushed out by the oil and no other preventative maintenance is required!
