Stallion, what engine is in your car, the 8v or 16v ????
I can tell you how to check the 8v setup, Daiblack could probably tell you how to test the 16v setup.
Daiblack, I thought on the 16v if you disconnected the variator solenoid at idle, it'd go lumpy, suggesting that it is actually doing something at idle, but I'm probably wrong though.
Stallion, the position of the inlet cam on the TS engines is moved via the variator depending on load, throttle position etc. It's a bit like altering the timing so you can get max power throughout the rev range. Think of it like this.......if you put some "sports" cams into a "normal" engine, at idle the car may be a bit lumpy as the cams will only be timed correctly at high revs. The variator adjusts the position of the cam to either advance or retard the cam so the timing is always spot on.
Hope that makes sense and I also hope I'm correct on my assumption
