ecu codes

As you know i need a new ecu, Theres' one available on an N reg 1.8 16v widebody which should be the same as mine, but apparently the ecu code starts 0 251 ........?????

Should all the same cars have the same ecu number?
If I change the ecu, code box and chips will it matter?
Is it something to do with the Motortronic 3 or 4 thingy?

It's definitely a 16v with the timing belt not chain.

Re: ecu codes

Tompa I had a look at the parts disk and there's only 1 ECU listed for the 1.8 16 valve and as all the code box's and locks are identicle I would say that if you use all the parts off the same car every thing should work.
Since the 1.8 16 valve started production in 1996 the same year they started to use Motronic .04 system I would think that all 1.8's use the .04 system

Re: ecu codes

Hmmm i think if you get a different ECU, then you will need the slave key box, this can only be programmed once, so if you dont get the two that match from the same car, then youll need a new slave box, about 40 quid i think, then 'hopefully' program that to the ECU you get.

I dont enve you, been there and it was a nightmare
