Wheels & Brake calipers........
Looking at the front brake calipers (2.0 TS), there is a cast arm that mimics the shape, and follows the rear outer profile, of the brake pad.
This 'arm' sticks out towards the outside of the vehicle and sits proud of the wheel hub by a few mil.
Now as you may remember, I have spacers on the front that make the inside edge of the alloy miss the edge of that cast part on the caliper, which in turn doesn't allow the wheel to sit on the hub properly and hence vibrate like hell.
(Alloys came with the car and they won't sit flat on the hub without spacers because of the edge of the caliper).
Question...if anyone is tinklering today, could you tell me how much that casting sticks out past the hub, so I can put a thinner spacer on...the current one is between 4.75 and 5mm.
Failing that I am considering grinding a smooth arc out of that cast part on the caliper and maybe the wheel, so I can get away with no spacers. Does that part of the caliper move?...it didn't look like it does - it was getting dark when I was looking last night and I couldn't see properly.
Any thoughts chaps?
