Iv'e noticed that my 1.8 twinny has started to have a little difficulty getting into reverse every so often. When changing into reverse i can feel a resistence and if I push a little harder it goes in with a slight cruch or whine. Is it possible this may be down to a loose or worn linkage? I believe this is located on the top side of the gearbox, although I havent checked yet, is this correct and is it a simple enough task to tighten it up?
Yes the car is at a complete stop, I have tried depressing the clutch on a number of occasions, and reving the car higher in a kinda double de-clucthing type effort. The overall feel of the gear changing is a little on the sloppy side, the car has done less than 60,000. If the linkage is in good order would a quickshift mechanisim make the gear change a bit more positive.
