OK, I did the front bank exhaust clearances tonight.
Instantly the noise has quietened. I checked all the zorst clearances before adjustment and they were all greater than 0.40mm.
The intakes seemed to be at about 0.48mm but I can't adjust them anyway (think that may be about right though
I adjusted the zorst to 0.253mm going by what Tim King said in his thread. I reckon if this advances the zorst, I'll get more torque anyway
The engine is noticeably quieter. It is now apparent that there is 1 very noisy tappet in the rear bank and the other 2 are probably most definately out too
I'll do them at the weekend.
On the condition of the top end........
No pitting or wear was apparent on the cam lobes or caps, in fact they all looked very new
. I did notice that all the gaskets look very new too. Maybe along with the gearbox rebuild, the top engine was rebuilt too ????
Anyway, the car is ticking over more smoothly (it seemed very smooth before), noticeably better pulling away from standstill.
Maybe the person who set up the clearances before had incorrect data ???
