Don't know if someone could give me some guidance.... decided to order up the parts for a belt change for my lovely new 155. I did this though a friend of mine who works for a motor factors company. Basically I read him the list of parts that is in the service history from the last time it was done. He was confused when I told him balance shaft belt & tensioner though - he said he could not find any reference to these parts and thought they were only for diesels. I'm a bit concerned because the cambelt and tensioner is only 90 quid which seems quite cheap compared to the whole lot that was purchased last time.
Does anyone know what I should be on the lookout for?
Ask him if he was looking at the list for a 1.8 as they don't have balancer belts and the associated tensioner.
Also if you do the belts you will need some cam locks do you have these.

3. Cambelt tensnioer (usually better to get the tensioner + idler, more expensive but safer in the long run)
4. Balancer shaft belt
5. Balancer shaft tensioner
6. Auxilliary Belt (well... yer at the belts.. may as well do this one too)
you need the cam locking tools to lock the cams into place before you remove the tension off the belt. Other wise one of the cams will move due to being on compression (my car ran like this for 1 1/2 yrs after getting the belts done at a garage that didn't have the tools... eventually re did them meself as i was sure that's what happened and found out that was why the car ran shyte since the belts were done)
Cheers for the info guys! My original plan was to get the parts from this guy because of my hair brained theory that it might be cheaper, and could then get a local mechanic to do the labour for me (still a bit scared of hurting the car!) .... I suppose the sensible thing to do would just be to use a local Alfa specialist!
if you fitted the cam belt properly with engine at TDC there is a mark on the balancer pulley on the crank, also there is a mark on each tooth on the balancer shaft pulleys, note that the belt has 3 markers inked on the side, align all these and it should be fine
